A Natural Perspective: Botanical Exhibition by the ASBA

In conjunction with the ASBA Annual Conference, an international exhibition of artworks by ASBA members will be held at the prestigious Phoenix Art Museum.
Public Opening & Artist Reception October 15, 2009

Eligibility: All current members in good standing (dues paid).
Subject: Botanical specimens, not previously shown in other international ASBA exhibition or at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation.
Media: Original two-dimensional drawings and paintings.
Submission: Artworks no larger than 30x36” framed. Up to 3 images. Digital files only, 360 dpi color .jpg, Image height 8”, submitted on CD. Individual files on disc labeled with artist name, artwork title, size and medium. CD will not be returned. Send check for US $25 payable to the ASBA with completed entry form. Entry forms are available online at amsocbotartists.or, or from the office at PH: 1.866.691.9080.
Presentation: Framed, white/off white matting, simple “L” profile light wood frames, wired ready to hang. Artworks not framed in this manner will not be hung.
Submission Deadline: January 9, 2009
Acceptance: By February 28, 2009
Sales information: Artwork need not be for sale. 30% commission on all sales will be retained by ASBA.

ASBA & The Horticultural Society of New York 12th International Juried Botanical Art Exhibition

Eligibility: Open to all current ASBA members in good standing, (dues paid), worldwide
Subject: Botanical specimens. Work may have appeared in regional or invitational exhibitions, but should not have been shown in another international exhibition of the ASBA.
Media: Section 1: Paintings. Section 2: Drawings. Two-dimensional original botanical artworks only.
Submissions: Digital files only: 360 dpi, image size 8”high, .jpgs, submitted on CD labeled with artist’s name and name(s) of artwork(s). Individual files on disk labeled with artwork title, size, and medium. CD will not be returned. Send check for US$25, payable to ASBA, entry form, 1 to 3 images to: American Society of Botanical Artists, Attn: Carol Woodin, 47 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10003. If accepted, it is the artist’s responsibility to insure the artwork is available. If, after being accepted, the artist withdraws the artwork before the exhibition, the artist will barred from any ASBA exhibition for the following two years.
Submission Deadline: Friday, March 27, 2009.
Catalog and Publicity: If accepted, your digital file will be used for the full color catalog and may be used for exhibit publicity.
Presentation: Accepted artwork will be no larger than 36x 30” framed, white or off-white matting, under Plexiglas only, simple, medium brown or gold wood “L” (gallery frame) profile, wired for hanging, and framed to a professional standard. Artwork not framed in this manner will be brought into compliance at the artist’s expense, or it will not be hung. The ASBA retains the right to refuse to hang any work when received, if the framing is inadequate, or the quality of the artwork differs greatly from that represented by the submission materials.
Notification: Sent out by mail by May 1, 2009.
Shipping and Insurance: Artwork must be wrapped in bubble wrap and shipped in a reusable box for return shipping. If using a wooden crate, screws, not nails, must be used. No Styrofoam peanuts. Work shipped with Styrofoam peanuts will not be unpacked, and will be returned immediately. Artists are responsible for cost of shipping and insurance to and from HSNY. Work may be shipped via UPS, FedEx, or US Mail. Artwork is insured while at the HSNY. Further instructions provided upon acceptance. All accepted work must be received by HSNY by late August, 2009.
Sales: Works must be for sale, and may not be removed until the close of the exhibition. 40% of the sale price will be retained (20% by HSNY and 20% by ASBA).
Awards: HSNY offers a Best of Show award of $250. This award can only be won once in a lifetime. An ASBA Award, given to a painting, of $200, and an ASBA Award of $200 will be given to a drawing. Other awards to be announced.

A Closer Look at Cactus and Succulents
ArizonaSonora Desert Museum, Tucson, AZ
The Art Institute will feature drawings and paintings of cactus and succulents in the Ironwood Gallery at the Desert Museum. This exhibit is in cooperation with the Tucson Cactus and Succulent Society as they host the biennial convention of the Cactus and Succulent Society of America in April 2009.

Eligibility: Open to all artists.
Subject: Cacti and succulents 2-dimensional, representational artwork only.
Submissions: One piece of original artwork in any media. Participants need to fill out and return the entry form along with a $10 entry fee payable to: ASDM Art Institute. Entries shall be in a JPG format no larger than 1MB submitted via e-mail to: arts@desertmuseum.org
Submission deadline: February 2, 2009
Notification: Artists will be notified via e-mail by Friday, February 27.
Framing, Media and Presentation: All pieces must be matted, framed and wired for hanging. Artwork can be no larger than 36” x 30” including frame. Larger pieces may be considered on an
individual basis.
Labeling: Artwork must be labeled on the back with the artist’s name, title of piece, medium, and sale price or NFS (not for sale). Each piece must be signed on the front by the artist.
Sales: Artwork may be offered for sale at the artist’s discretion. When sold, the Art Institute will retain a 40% commission and forward a check to the artist for the remaining 60% within 30 days of the show closing.
Drop Off of Artwork: Entrants are required to drop off their artwork to the Ironwood Gallery on Wednesday, April 1 between 8:30 and 11:30 or ship their work to the address below by Friday, March 27. Absolutely no packing peanuts allowed. If packing peanuts are used, the work will be immediately returned to the artist and not displayed.
Pickup of Artwork: Entrants must pick up their artwork in the Ironwood Gallery at the Desert Museum on Monday June 9 between 8:30 am and 11:30 AM. Unsold artwork (to be shipped) will be returned after June 9, 2009. Return shipping must be approved and paid in advance.

Imagine That!
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Tucson, AZ
This is your opportunity to flex your imagination. Create an image of species you imagine: one that has all the qualities and fine detail of a realistic work, in a convincing way. The work should embrace the concepts of wildlife art while conjuring flora and/or fauna that could not possibly exist.
Eligibility: Open to all artists.
Submissions: One piece of original artwork in any media. Completed entry form and $10 entry fee payable to ASDM Art Institute to ASDM, with e-mail of .jpg scan no larger than 1 MB submitted via e-mail to: GALLERY@desertmuseum.org.
