As Curator, Ms. Bruno is responsible for all activities of the Art Department. She curates the art collection and the regular schedule of exhibitions on display in the Institute’s gallery. She also prepares and designs the exhibitions and the companion catalogues, maintains the artwork in the collection and manages the travel exhibition program. She is an honorary member of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) and the local chapter, the Allegheny Highlands Botanical Art Society (AHBAS). She provides tours of the exhibitions and makes available for view special selections of the art collection to visiting botanical artists, as well as students of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Botanical Illustration program. In 1996 Ms. Bruno traveled with then Curator of Art James J. White to India to document the botanical artworks in the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens in Bangalore. Prior to joining the Institute in 1996, she worked at a gallery in Pittsburgh where she was responsible for the archival preparation of art materials on site and assisted in the preparation of materials for special exhibitions at local museums. She is a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and continues to exhibit her own photographs in juried and invitational exhibitions. She also is a member of the Western Pennsylvania Unit of the Herb Society of America and maintains her own herb and native plant garden.
